05:16 pm - Skating in Portland
This summer of skating has given me a plethora of photos. Here are some photos from "Go Skateboarding Day." We skated Portland up finding all the roll-ins we could find around downtown. then rolled over to the other side of the river for some good old street spots. This spot is on a lot that currently has no tenant.
Casey properly pole jams to fakie in Portland proper.
Billy catches some early grab air off the lil lip to bank.
Ol' Loc Josh rips some ollies with no bones while Billy does the look back. As you can see this lot is available if you want it. Somebody buy it and we'll make a skatepark!
One last train run!

12:28 am - Ethan Lau's style
I just recently rediscovered some photos that I'd been sitting on. The photos are of Ethan Lau skating the Gibson skatepark on the Sunshine Coast in BC. We had just attended Attack of Danger Bay 8 in Pendor Harbor and were on our way back to Vancouver when we missed the ferry. We drove to this park after missing the ferry to Vancouver.
Ethan let me borrow his fisheye lens and I got some nice round images for a change.

I decided to crop some down because they look better that way.

Many thanks goes out to Ethan Lau from Hawaii for letting me borrow the lens and shoot his amazingly stylish tranny skating. It was a fun little sesh before hopping on the ferry.

05:19 pm - Mary Mary
Freerides at Maryhill are becoming quite the regular thing now that Dean Ozuna has started organizing them. Yet again, another freeride was had at Maryhill Loops Rd in this March of 2009. The first day it rained but it didn't really stop anyone from riding their $50 worth of the $100 two day event.

The nest day it dried up for a beautiful day of tail winds which allow you to really rail into corners at the highest speeds. But that wasn't enough speed for everyone. Some people tried getting a little more speed with a bungee! Zoo Bomber Dogeye and NorthwestLongboarding.com's Shane Donogh pull the bungee up for Billy Meiners.
Billy gets a 30 mph start with the bungee cord.
The newest thing at Maryhill is the wind turbines. They certainly make for a scenic shot. This one is my favorites.

11:30 pm - Mini BIke Winter 09
Mini Bike Winter is a 3 day festival of fun in Portland, OR in February. It's like nothing else you've ever seen before. One of the events is the Chariot War which is like Mad Max on bicycles. It was the closest thing to anarchy that I have ever seen. Other events mostly mini bike competitions. I am currently putting together a video of the weekend from 10,000 photos I made.

06:25 pm - Malibu skatin'
A couple of months ago while in LA for the weekend, I was fortunate to meet up with Loaded local bros Louis Pilloni (pictured here) and James Kelly in Malibu. Check out this photo on the homepage of the Loaded Boards website. www.loadedboards.com/newsite_v1/
The first run I caught was this late afternoon scene on the gnarly Tuna Canyon Road. Louis was the first in line to blast through this small pocket of light around one of the significant right hand corners of the road.
Here James Kelly rides the ridge line of light leading into Tuna Canyon.
\
James kelly is in the limelight, I mean the orange light; Brent Dubendorf from Colorado is drifting on the side; Louis Pilloni and Billy Meiners are up ahead. This is on the upper part of Tuna Canyon which is a two lane road and should be riden with extreme caution.
This was the last image I was able to make before the Malibu session was over, thanks to Rob McKendrey holding the flash. As Billy Meiners takes the inside of this corner at dusk, he wishes his visor was clear instead of tinted.

Maryhill Loops Road has been an epic place for freeriding on downhill skateboards. Groups of riders fly down the hill drafting and passing for position. The filming of these runs have only been getting more and more popular as the sport continues to grow. The posting of the videos online increases awareness of downhill skateboarding to anyone who stumbles upon the videos. Having video footage moving with the action is probably the most ultimate way to document the activity. Pictured here is a run where Ethan Lau from Oahu wears the "scorpion cam" for a run. Here is a link to the video.

The Switchbacks Slippery Slow-fest was a day of riding/racing down the switchbacks in Washington Park in Portland.
Everyone raced multiple times, in 2, 3, and 4 man (sadly, no women competed) heats. I made a bunch of time lapses but ended up getting some good frames as well. Here is a link to more of these photos. photos.breakawayind.net/f188319138
Casey Morrow won the race. Guess who organized it? Casey!

04:54 pm - Portland downhill skateboarding
Hello, my name is Jon Huey and I am a photographer in Portland, OR and I have decided to share some on my livejournal site. I specialize in all sorts of different or weird activities such as downhill skateboarding, riding mini-bikes, and naked mud running.
Hope you enjoy.
The options for downhill skateboarding spots in Portland, OR are vast. Switchbacks in Washington Park is one of the many awesome spots in the west hills. Billy Meiners stand up slides through the second of three corners on a beautiful afternoon this fall.
Here, Billy check slides before entering the third corner of Switchbacks.
Billy speeds through a corner in the west hills.
